Fort Irwin Mayors Program
“Who’s up for the challenge?”
This was the closing inquiry from a grateful Stefanie Fulcher, Mayor of the Bitter Springs Neighborhood located in The Villages at Fort Irwin last Thursday afternoon. Upon learning of her family’s upcoming departure from post, Command Sergeant Major Edwards presented the young mother with a Challenge Coin commemorating her dedication and community involvement.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve the Bitter Springs Community and to be a part of the Fort Irwin Mayor’s Program” Stefanie exclaimed. “I would also like to encourage others who have the extra time, to bring your ideas, experience and heart to help better our post anyway that you can.”
Creating and maintaining a sense of community while facilitating open communication and dialog between residents, Garrison, and the Micheal’s Organization is, essentially, the name of the game. But it goes deeper. “You’ll never be bored, alone, or unhappy finding your place here in the middle of everywhere! There are so many ways and chances to volunteer if you just ask around. Your efforts will not be taken for granted”, continued Stefanie.
Garrison CSM Edwards agrees. While presenting Mrs. Fulcher’s coin he remarked on Fort Irwin’s status as the most major California Installation for the Army. “We are the show, the crown jewel, [belle] of the ball,” boasted Edwards. “A lot of people have a lot of bad stuff to say about this base. But this is OUR base.” Both individuals showed pride in this desert community.
The Garrison Mayoral Program serves as a catalyst for communication between The Villages at Fort Irwin Staff and the many residents. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Army Community Service Office located in Building 109.
