Community Spirit Shines Bright During Staff Volunteer Day in Barstow
In an inspiring display of community unity and support, the staff at The Villages at Fort Irwin came together on Michael's Day of Service to lend a helping hand to three local organizations in Barstow, California. With great enthusiasm and determination, volunteers chose to dedicate their time and efforts to the Barstow VFW, Barstow Humane Society, and Barstow Veteran's Home, making it a memorable day for both the volunteers and the recipients of their goodwill.
A total of forty volunteers participated in various renovation and beautification projects before meeting back up at the Veteran's Home for a specially prepared lunch. Twenty took on the task of revamping the Barstow Veteran's Home by painting curbs, signage, and handrails, giving the exterior of the facility a fresh and appealing facelift. Others spent time with shelter animals, doing various exterior maintenance, and cleaning kennels at the two other locations.
Cicily Kea, Administrative Assistant, emphasized the importance of the partnership between the Fort Irwin community and Barstow. "The goal is to lift the lives of others around us, and what better way than to serve two populations we absolutely love: our veterans and animals," she said. The volunteers certainly achieved that goal, brightening the lives of those residing at the Barstow Veteran's Home and enhancing the environment for the dedicated staff who work there.
Cherry Langston, the outgoing Marketing Manager, who is also a veteran herself, expressed her pride in the community's efforts. She said, "I was very proud to see how excited the team was to help these organizations. These are the moments at Michaels I'll miss the most!" Langston's sentiments reflected the deep emotional connection that many on staff feel every day while serving our active duty military residents.
The day of community service exemplifies TMO's spirit of unity, selflessness, and support. It is a reminder that by coming together and lending a helping hand, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most.
