Annual Power Outage Information

Once or twice a year, Fort Irwin shuts off all the power to post. This is to perform maintenance on the power system. The next outage is Saturday, October 14th at 6am lasting until sometime between 6pm and 8pm.

There are several family friendly events that day both on and off post. Follow The Villages, MWR, and Garrision's Facebook pages for details on facility hours, ice points, activities, and tips. We will also publish the info on our resident portal ActiveBuilding.

If you have medical needs requiring special accommodations or medication storage, please contact your EFMP program manager to ensure your information is up to date. It should be noted, renters insurance WILL NOT cover claims for electronics and food for planned outages.

Preparation Tips:

  1. Refrigerated Items: In preparation for the outage, please take the following steps to store refrigerated items:

    • Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to retain cold temperatures.
    • Consider using coolers with ice packs to store essential perishables during the outage.
  2. Opening Windows: To ensure proper ventilation during the outage, open windows and doors to encourage airflow and help maintain a comfortable indoor environment.

  3. Prepping Electronics: To safeguard your electronics during the outage, follow these tips:

    • Unplug sensitive electronic devices like computers, TVs, and gaming consoles to protect them from potential power surges when the power is restored.
    • Consider using surge protectors to safeguard devices that must remain plugged in, such as refrigerators.
