SUMMER SOLSTICE SCAVENGER HUNT
ATTENTION: ADVENTURERS WANTED!
The first week of summer quickly approaches. On that day, the Northern Hemisphere has the longest sunlight all year. The solstice takes place on June 21, 2019, at 8:54 AM.
So, we thought it would be a great opportunity to hold an online scavenger hunt that all ages could participate in! (And no, you won’t be searching for wild and obscure items on the internet.)
Here’s how it works: During the duration of the contest, you simply take a picture or video of you doing something from our list. Then you upload it to a social media channel of your choice with our hashtag #villagesatfortirwin in the post description or comment. Some activities are right here in your own backyard, some are events in the community, and others require a little travel or exploring. The point is to get out and have some fun!
Duration: All tagged photos must be uploaded between June 17th-June 30th
Winner: We will award the 3 highest participants with summer themed gift baskets.
Additional rules: Must post photos or videos with hashtag #villagesatfortirwin during scavenger hunt dates only. Must be uploaded to the same social account or website and must be public until the winners are announced. Residents may use Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn or your own blog/website. Any resident choosing to use a social site not listed must notify us here or email jlangston@tmo.com to be considered.
LIST OF ACTIVITIES
Build a pillow/blanket fort
Camp in your backyard
Take a family photo in a new city
Take a pic with a Villages Staff Member
Hike Owl Canyon/Rainbow Basin (Outdoor Rec)
Take a selfie with your pet wearing sunglasses
Visit the beach
Try new foods at the High Desert Food Festival
Play a game of kickball, catch or football
Visit a location on Route 66
Sketch or paint something (anything you like)
Visit a museum or historical site in Barstow
Watch a movie at the Skyline Drive In Theater
Take a picture of a heart shaped cloud
Play a game of catch (football, baseball, frisbee)
Hike Mount Blackie
Go Paintballing (Outdoor Rec)
Pan for gold or ride the train at Calico Ghost Town
Teach someone to bowl
Take a picture of a beautiful sunset
Roast some marshmallows and/or make s’mores
Explore down a new dirt road
Howl at the moon (full moon on the 17th)
Have a water balloon fight
Watch a live band
Have a burger at Slash X Ranch
Grill up some food on the BBQ
**BONUS: Attend another Fort Irwin special event of your choice (worth 2 points)
